New Inquiry for Age-of-Machine/Date-of-Manufacture

Wouldn't it be handy to know, with a single click, when a machine was manufactured -- and therefore how old it is?

Sure, this does not necessarily tell you if a machine is in-warranty. The reason is because the purchase date (which is actually what counts in such regard) can be weeks, months, and in some cases even years after the date of manufacture. But at least the date of manufacture provides a big clue. What's more, it can help you advise the customer regarding advisability of investing in a relatively expensive repair, and things of that nature.

It might also simply impress a customer to learn you can instantly provide such information.

So, we've now given you a tool by which to do this.

When you pick this new option the system will use a set of particular rules, as applicable to each manufacturer, to deduce from the serial number what was the week or month of manufacture (that is as specific as the embedded within serial number information gets). In consequence, you'll see a message similar to this:

At this time, we've created coding by which ServiceDesk can deduce date-of-manufacture info on the basis of serial numbers from Samsung, LG, Bosch and the Whirlpool, General Electric and Electrolux families of brands. Going forward, we can potentially add more on the basis of your requests.
